What Else Is In The Teaches

THE CAVE

In 2007, Peaches exhibited Fan Base - an original installation piece – at La Biennale de Montréal. Outside hairy, organic, sculpted cave; inside media-frenzy pop shrine, Fan Base was crafted entirely from objects which fans had thrown onto the stage during Peaches’ performances; bras, dildos, condoms, t-shirts, panties, baseball caps…

Peaches had collected these devotional objects over the course of six years of touring, weaving the amassed collection together into a controlled chaos - perhaps a nod to the energetic way in which they had entered her possession.

In the midst of the disparate objects of the cave was a video installation. Throughout one tour, Peaches had asked various audience members to sing along with her closing song Fuck the Pain Away. These audience performances were then edited together in the video piece to recreate the full song, the installation then literally giving back to her fans what they gave to her.

In 2010, Fan Base travelled to South Korea to be featured in the group show No More Heroes & Daughters. As the installation was being added to after each tour, Peaches’ shifting modes of expression meant that the South Korean incarnation of Fan Base was very different from its Canadian predecessor.
